Paula Blanco

(b. 1996)

Oviedo, Spain

The work of Paula Blanco is easily identificable and leaves a lasting, euphoric impression.

Influenced by a keen sensibility to the Eros, she used the nude genre as a tool, dissolving, and twisting the figure with the use of pigments and oils. In addition, she combined it with the use of collage that usually extended (by intention) beyond the limits of the support and added a unique physicality to the work.

This concept changed drastically during her art residency in at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Dubai.

The presence of collage remained in her work (and even increased).

However, the execution, initially based on the relationship between figure and space, evolved into a more abstract and pure relationship between the living matter and space.

She also added the use of colour, which took its own control and lead to different discoveries in the work.

This use of colour was a direct response to the the spectacularity of the city and the incessant stimulation which comes from immersing yourself in a different culture.

The combination of the typical tears of her work and her renewed use of colour gave rise to a series of artworks that are visually powerful and suggestive of strength, beauty, and change. Torn and reborn.
